Safety Blitz 2022

WEEK 1: Distracted Driving

WEEK 2: Speeding

WEEK 3: Fatigue

WEEK 4: Tailgating

WHAT IS THIS "BLITZ" ABOUT?

Transportation is consistently ranked in the top 5 most dangerous jobs in the nation. Nearly 65% of all work-related deaths in the transportation industry are the result of a motor vehicle crash. And the majority of these accidents are completely avoidable. It is our mission to create more awareness for this problem and, hopefully, create mindfulness on the roadways.

Last year, we introduced the Safety Blitz as a week-long campaign to create situational awareness for SLIPS, TRIPS and FALLS, a major cause of workplace injuries. Through feedback from our participants (and the Risk Management Advisory Committee), we are following up the success from last year with this year's topic: MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS.

WHAT EXACTLY IS A "BLITZ"?

blitz /blits/ (noun)
a sudden, energetic, and concerted effort, typically on a specific task

We are using the term "blitz" as a planned effort to create situational awareness for the leading cause of workplace accidents, injuries, and, unfortunately, deaths. Since operating a commercial motor vehicle is quite literally in the job description for drivers, we are placing emphasis on how to avoid accidents as much as possible.

WHY SHOULD I PLAY ALONG?

Participation in the Safety Blitz is completely optional. There will be no penalties, violations, delays, or frustrations. It is our goal to bring awareness to a safety concern that is very real and very preventable, while celebrating drivers, rewarding good behavior, promoting safety, and bringing a little fun to the safety culture of our Member companies.

WHAT'S THE GAME PLAN?

We have tweaked the schedule for this year's Blitz to encompass the entire month of October. This gives participants an entire week to focus on a particular topic.  Downloadable flyers will include QR codes to our weekly quizzes for all employees (complete them for a chance to win gift cards!), as well as our #SB22 YouTube videos. Don't forget to share your pictures on Facebook with the #SafetyBlitz2022 tag for more chances to win!
