What is this "BLITZ" all about?
Transportation is consistently ranked in the top 5 most dangerous industries in the nation. What many do not understand is that nearly 80% of all work-related injuries occur when the vehicle is not moving. If you watch the film, you see that over 50% of those injuries are caused by SLIPS, TRIPS, and FALLS.
The week of September 12-18 is National Truck Driver Appreciation Week and we want to honor our drivers by focusing on their safety and bringing awareness to these preventable injuries. With college football kicking into high gear, why not have a little fun with it as well?
What exactly is a "BLITZ"?

a sudden, energetic, and concerted effort, typically on a specific task
In football, a blitz is a planned maneuver where a higher than usual number of defensive players rush the passer in an unexpected attack to sack or pressure him to hurry his pass attempt. We are using a "blitz" as a planned effort to create situational awareness for the leading cause of workplace injuries: SLIPS, TRIPS, and FALLS.
Why should I play along?
Participation in the Safety Blitz is completely optional. There will be no penalties, violations, delays or frustrations. It is our goal to bring awareness to a safety concern that is very real and preventable, while celebrating drivers, rewarding good behavior, promoting safety, and bringing a little fun to the safety culture of our Member companies.

What's the game plan?
We have developed a schedule for Monday, September 13th through Friday, September 17th to help guide participating companies through the week. Here's a snapshot:
Monday 9/13 [KICKOFF] Introduction to Safety Blitz week, including real-life situations and special guest appearance videos. Introduce schedule for the week and explain the importance of safety for the culture of the company.
Tuesday 9/14 [FIRST DOWN] Focus on SLIPS. Provide actual claims and tips to avoid them. Perform company observations and consider rewarding drivers/employees who are caught "doing the right thing". ATACF/AIR Risk Managers will be stopping by to do the same.
Wednesday 9/15 [SECOND DOWN] Focus on TRIPS. Provide actual claims and tips to avoid them. Perform company observations and consider rewarding drivers/employees who are caught "doing the right thing". ATACF/AIR Risk Managers will be stopping by to do the same.
Thursday 9/16 [THIRD DOWN] Focus on FALLS. Provide actual claims and tips to avoid them. Perform company observations and consider rewarding drivers/employees who are caught "doing the right thing". ATACF/AIR Risk Managers will be stopping by to do the same.
Friday 9/17 [TOUCHDOWN!] Focus on specific situations causing the majority of injuries (entering/exiting cabs and falls from flatbeds). Grand prize drawings for participating companies.
